The Sickos Synopsis - Our Weekly early 1900s style Old-Timey Recap for some of the FCS Playoffs & SWAC Championship
Here at the Sickos Committee, we really love the Old-Timey newspaper headlines from college football games from the 1920s and earlier. We wanted to do a weekly recap of some randomly decided games in this Old-Timey style of writing for the fun of it. Just try to imagine an old school news reporter reading this aloud to you on an old transistor radio.
Also, if you’ve seen this intro a ton already you can skip. :)

The Southern Illinois Salukis slid into the Second Round of the FCS playoffs and slid clear across the country to take on the Idaho Vandals in the provincial palace known as the Kibbie Dome. The Salukis stifling defense snuffed out any attempts at the Vandals to score early in the game. Southern Illinois then vexed the Vandals defense and cashed in a Ro Elliot 38 yard dash for a 7-0 lead. The Vandals coughed up the pill on the very next play and the Salukis slapped another three points on the scoreboard. Idaho was inept and couldn’t get anything going offensively due to the suffocating Salukis defensive line. However, the Vandals managed to mount a methodical drive and connected on a 40 yard field goal right before halftime down 10-3. After halftime, a jolt from Jermaine Jackson in the form of a 86 yard punt return for touchdown illuminated Idaho and the Kibbie Dome, tying the score at 10-10. The Salukis then answered with a 13 play drive for a touchdown taking a 17-10 lead. The Vandals ventured on a 12 play 83 yard drive and finally found the end zone on their seventh goal to goal play to situate the scoreboard at seventeens. The Salukis shook off the score and slotted themselves into a position for a game winning 41 yard field goal much to the chagrin of the Kibbie congregation. But the Vandals vaulted into the air to swat the Salukis chance at a game winner away, sending the game to overtime. In overtime, Idaho intercepted a Salukis spiral. Then they slotted the salami through the uprights for the game winning field goal sending the Kibbie Dome into a cacophony of cheers!

Since 1999 the Southwestern Athletic Conference has played a conference championship game to determine their football champion. With the West and East divisions battling through the ages the conference has crown their champion each season. This year’s conference features the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University Rattlers and the Prairie View A&M Panthers. The teams met in Bragg Memorial Stadium to settle contest. After a long weather delay that caused the game to begin late, the Rattlers jumped all over the Panthers, sprinting out to a 21-0 lead. Before the end of the first half, the visitors from the West scored and cut the lead to 21-7. A second weather delay pushed the game later into the evening, but after the return and the half, PVA&M got back on the board with another score. Between the halves and the weather delays, the PVA&M Marching Storm took the field and brought a distinct flair with them from the Lone Star State. Not to be out done, the famed Marching 100 of FAMU entered the field from all four corners of the field and put on a performance worthy of the championship atmosphere. From that point in the game, it was all Rattlers, scoring two more touchdown packing up the Panthers and providing them with positive affirmation to return home post haste. Giving the Rattlers their first SWAC championship in football.
