Welcome to the Sickos Committee’s Weather, Travel & Football Master Almanac Network aka the SCWTFMAN.

Here at the SCWTFMAN we will attempt to forecast the upcoming 2024 college football season by using our Sickos Committee alert system. We’re going to do this in the Famer’s Almanac style. If you don’t know what a Farmers' Almanac is, basically it provides long-range weather predictions for both the U.S. and Canada. We will be applying our forecast to all of Division I in the United States. We’re trying to predict what the upcoming season holds for all Division I teams in college football using our Sickos Committee Weather Alert System.

First we will preview the 129 FCS teams in a conference by conference breakdown over the next coming weeks. Then we will get to the FBS.

Will these previews be long winded and incredibly in depth? No. 

Will these previews be mostly based on “vibes” as assessed by the Sickos Committee weather forecasters? Yes. 

Basically, we’re going to try to assess the team as a Sickos Warning, Watch or Advisory, give you their record last year, provide a little blurb about the team and for the FCS version to possibly advise you of any of their games against the FBS and interesting schedule tidbits. This year we’re also adding a conference specific thing.

Alabama A&M

Where: Normal, AL

Last Year's Record: 5-6 (3-5 SWAC)

Why Should You Care: Alabama A&M has been making progress in their 7th year under Coach Connell Maynor. As the Dean of the SWAC, watch out for the Bulldogs. 

Sickos Forecast:  Warning - A middle of the road team last year looking to spring some upsets this year.

Potential Sickos Game(s): To start the season this team heads to play Auburn. An excellent opportunity to knock off an instate rival. 

Closest Southwestern Airlines Airport: At 101 miles, the closest Southwestern Hub is Birmingham International. 

Alabama State

Where: Montgomery, AL

Last Year's Record: 7-4 (5-3 SWAC)

Why Should You Care: This is the third season of Coach Eddie Robinson, Jr. A Bama State Alumni, football player, someone who is “SWAC”. This season Bama State plays four (4) teams from the State of Alabama. Should they win them all, they could be considered AlaBAMA State Champs.

Sickos Forecast:  Watch - Potential for improvement with a possible big improvement.

Potential Sickos Game(s): Bama State will be on the road at Samford this season. This should be a game to watch in 2024. 

Closest Southwestern Airlines Airport: At 91 miles, Birmingham International. 

Alcorn State

Where: Lorman, MS

Last Year's Record: 7-4 (6-2 SWAC) 

Why Should You Care: This is the first season since 2012 that Fred McNair will not be the sideline for Alcorn State. Taking the reins is DC promoted to HC Cedric Thomas. No stranger to coaching on the SWAC, Coach Thomas was the HC at ARPB from 2018-2019. Bringing his extensive experience to the West Division Co-Champ may be the ticket to getting over the hump into the SWAC Championship Game this season. 

Sickos Forecast:  Watch - SWAC West potential winner here in a crowded field and should be entertaining to watch.

Potential Sickos Game(s): Alcorn heads to Nashville this season to take on Vanderbilt. A struggling Vandy could provide the SWAC with their first win over an SEC foe. 

Closest Southwestern Airlines Airport: 72 Miles to Jackson, MS.

Arkansas–Pine Bluff

Where: Pine Bluff, AR

Last Year's Record: 2-9 (1-7 SWAC)

Why Should You Care: Arkansas-Pine Bluff has the opportunity to become State Champs of the Natural State this season. With games against the Arkansas Razorbacks, Central Arkansas, and Arkansas Baptist, they would have a compelling argument with wins against all three. 

Sickos Forecast:  Watch - Hoping for improvement here and maybe spring an upset or two.

Potential Sickos Game(s): Arkansas - Arkansas-Pine Bluff. These schools are in the same University of Arkansas System and this game is played in the capital, Little Rock. If the Golden Lions can add the Razorbacks’ pelt to their wall, it would be the biggest win in program history.

Closest Southwestern Airlines Airport: 47 miles to Little Rock, AR

Bethune–Cookman

Where: Daytona Beach, FL

Last Year's Record: 3-8 (2-6 SWAC) 

Why Should You Care: Going onto the second season under Coach Raymond Woodie, the Wildcats have renewed hopes and enthusiasm for the season. The team should be improved compared to last season and ready to compete with the SWAC foes.

Sickos Forecast: Advisory - We hope for some improvement this year and some potential upsets.

Potential Sickos Game(s): This season the Florida Classic is featuring a first year coach and a second year coach. Making for a great event and hopefully, a true barnburner of a game.

Closest Southwestern Airlines Airport: 57 miles to Orlando 

Florida A&M

Where: Tallahassee, FL

Last Year's Record: 12-1 (8-0 SWAC)

Why Should You Care: SWAC Champions, Celebration Bowl Champion, Black National Champions. The Rattlers were the pinnacle of HBCU football. This season they have a new coach in Coach James Colzie III. Last season, he was the DB coach and now has his first HC job. He’ll be looking to make his mark as the Rattlers look to defend their title. 

Sickos Forecast:  Watch - New Coach and a team with a target on it’s back.

Potential Sickos Game(s): Week 0 brings the FAMU Faithful to Atlanta, GA for the MEAC/SWAC kickoff against Norfolk State University’s Spartan. This will be an early test for the Rattlers and an opportunity to put any doubts to bed. 

Closest Southwestern Airlines Airport: 135 miles to Panama City Beach-Tocumen International Airport.

Grambling State

Where: Grambling, LA

Last Year's Record: 5-6 (4-4 SWAC)

Why Should You Care: Grambling State had an inconsistent season in 2023, losing three games by less than a single score. The team remained competitive in several games throughout the season. This season the Tigers have a new coach in Mickey Joseph, who left Nebraska due to various legal issues you can search for if you’d like. Coach Joseph was previously the HC of the Langston University Lions and was the WR coach for Grambling in 2014-2015.

Sickos Forecast:  Watch - Solid chance to get in the SWAC West title conversation.

Potential Sickos Game(s): The G-Men face the Tuskegee Golden Tigers in their second game of the season. Tuskegee was a solid team in 2023 and will be searching for two victories against SWAC opponents in 2024. Watch this space to see if the Golden Tigers can take down the Grambling Tigers.

Closest Southwestern Airlines Airport: 156 miles to Jackson-Evers International Airport. 

Jackson State

Where: Jackson, MS

Last Year's Record: 7-4 (5-3 SWAC)

Why Should You Care: Jackson State is in their second season under Coach TC Taylor. This season in a wide open East Division, the Tigers seek to get back into the SWAC Championship Game. 

Sickos Forecast:  Warning - Likely in the mix for the SWAC West which appears to be up for grabs between many teams.

Potential Sickos Game(s): The Boom-Box Classic is early this season. Both teams will be looking to get their first SWAC win in week 3. 

Closest Southwestern Airlines Airport: Jackson-Evers International Airport in Jackson, MS. 

Mississippi Valley State

Where: Itta Bena, MS

Last Year's Record: 1-10 (1-7 SWAC)

Why Should You Care: Mississippi Valley State enters this season winning a single game in 2023 and will be better. With games against Tennessee State and a home game with rival Alcorn, the Delta Devils are poised to make a run this season. New Logo Alert!

Sickos Forecast:  Watch - We hope to see some improvement and they may catch a conference foe slipping once or twice.

Potential Sickos Game(s): A home game against Alcorn State is going to be a huge draw for the Delta Devils. 

Closest Southwestern Airlines Airport: 102 miles to Jackson-Ever International Airport. 

Prairie View A&M

Where: Prairie View, TX

Last Year's Record: 6-6 (6-2 SWAC)

Why Should You Care: The Panthers are the defending West Division Champs and seem poised to mount a spirited defense. 

Sickos Forecast:  Warning - Can they defend the SWAC West title? Or will the SWAC West pull them down. They were involved in some wild games last year.

Potential Sickos Game(s): PVA&M heads to San Antonio to play Incarnate Word. These teams should be evenly matched and will make for a great match up in the Lone Star State. 

Closest Southwestern Airlines Airport: 57 miles to Houston Airport. 

Southern

Where: Baton Rouge, LA

Last Year's Record: 6-5 (5-3 SWAC)

Why Should You Care: The Jaguars are under a new HC in Coach Terrence Graves who has now coached both Grambling and Southern. The Southern faithful will be treated to a new team able to win all their games in the West Division. 

Sickos Forecast: Warning - Got a shot to contend in the SWAC West but could be up and down this year.

Potential Sickos Game(s): The Bayou Classic will be the game to watch this season. These teams fought for four quarters in the 2023 edition and will be on the same trajectory in 2024.

Closest Southwestern Airlines Airport: 81 Miles to New Orleans International Airport. 

Texas Southern

Where: Houston, TX

Last Year's Record: 3-8 (2-7 SWAC)

Why Should You Care: Texas Southern has not had a winning season since 2010. The Tigers are seeking to reinvigorate their fanbase and win the West Division. 

Sickos Forecast:  Watch - Tough schedule this year but they could surprise a few teams.

Potential Sickos Game(s): Texas Southern is looking to get back into the SWAC upper tier in 2024. Before them is a tough schedule and overcoming that would be a major accomplishment for the Tigers.
