The Sickos Committee’s Weather Travel and Football Master Almanac Network aka the SCWTFMAN - The Patriot League

Welcome to the Sickos Committee’s Weather, Travel & Football Master Almanac Network aka the SCWTFMAN.

Here at the SCWTFMAN we will attempt to forecast the upcoming 2024 college football season by using our Sickos Committee alert system. We’re going to do this in the Famer’s Almanac style. If you don’t know what a Farmers' Almanac is, basically it provides long-range weather predictions for both the U.S. and Canada. We will be applying our forecast to all of Division I in the United States. We’re trying to predict what the upcoming season holds for all Division I teams in college football using our Sickos Committee Weather Alert System.

First we will preview the 129 FCS teams in a conference by conference breakdown over the next coming weeks. Then we will get to the FBS.

Will these previews be long winded and incredibly in depth? No. 

Will these previews be mostly based on “vibes” as assessed by the Sickos Committee weather forecasters? Yes. 

Basically, we’re going to try to assess the team as a Sickos Warning, Watch or Advisory, give you their record last year, provide a little blurb about the team and for the FCS version to possibly advise you of any of their games against the FBS and interesting schedule tidbits. This year we’re also adding a conference specific thing.

For the Patriot League, we decided to provide you with the distance from the school to the nearest company with Patriot in their name.

The Patriot League

Bucknell

Where: Lewisburg, PA

Last Year’s Record: 4-7 (1-5 Patriot)

Why Should You Care: The Bison aren’t afraid to get into some shootouts, scoring 38 or more three times last season, but also allowing 50+ 3 times. Also, they have phenomenal topiary work in the stadium spelling out BUCKNELL!

Sickos Forecast: Advisory - Bucknell hasn’t had a winning season since 2014, and are still trying to rebuild.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Cornell on October 19. The Bison took down the Big Red on the road last year, but Cornell will be out for revenge in a non-conference matchup.

Distance to a Company with Patriot in the name: 13.1 miles to Patriot Power Washing and Windows.

Colgate

Where: Hamilton, NY

Last Year’s Record: 6-5 (4-2 Patriot)

Why Should You Care: Colgate has plenty of momentum entering the season, rebounding from a 1-4 start to win 5 of their last 6 games in 2023. They also have a 5th-year defensive lineman named K2 Dickens.

Sickos Forecast: Watch - The Raiders averaged 32 points per game over their last 5 games last season, and the schedule is ripe for shootouts.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Akron on September 14. A prime chance for an FCS over FBS upset.

Fordham (#Ramily)

Where: Bronx, NY

Last Year’s Record: 6-5 (2-4 Patriot)

Why Should You Care: While they didn’t quite match their 49.5 PPG output from 2022, their offense still put up 40+ points on 4 occasions last season, and looks to be strong again.

Sickos Forecast: Warning - #Ramily had 7 one-score games last season, and close games with lots of points is a match made in sickos heaven. #RAMILY

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Holy Cross on October 12. Fordham hasn’t won the Ram-Crusader cup in 6 seasons, with the last 2 years being heartbreaking losses of 53-52 in 2022 and 49-47 last season.

Distance to a Company with Patriot in the name: 3.9 miles to Patriot Hardware.

Georgetown

Where: Washington, D.C.

Last Year’s Record: 5-6 (3-3 Patriot)

Why Should You Care: Hoya Saxa! Georgetown came up just shy of its first winning season since 2011 last year, but a favorable schedule this year could be the key to turning the corner.

Sickos Forecast: Watch - The Hoyas are at a disadvantage being the only Patriot League team to not give football scholarships, but are very feisty and often punch above their weight.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Brown on September 21 and vs Columbia on September 28. Hosting a pair of bottom-half Ivy League teams could prove to be must-win games in their quest for a winning record.

Holy Cross

Where: Worcester, MA

Last Year’s Record: 7-4 (5-1 Patriot)

Why Should You Care: The Crusaders were 5th in FCS in points per game last season, and came close to a pair of wins over FBS teams, losing to Army and Boston College by 3 points each. HC Bob Chesney left for James Madison, but they should be lined up for success under Dan Curran. 

Sickos Forecast: Advisory - The Crusaders have won at least a share of the last 5 Patriot titles, and shouldn’t lose much pace even while switching to a more defense-focused approach.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Fordham on October 12. Their defense will be put to the test on homecoming.

Distance to a Company with Patriot in the name: 0.4 miles to Little Patriots Early Learning Center.

Lafayette

Where: Easton, PA

Last Year’s Record: 9-3 (5-1 Patriot)

Why Should You Care: The Leopards had their first full winning season since 2013 last year, and came up just short of an upset in the FCS playoffs at Delaware.

Sickos Forecast: Advisory - HC John Troxell has made a lot of progress in just 2 years here, and the success looks to continue.

Potential Sickos Game(s): at Lehigh on November 23. The Rivalry has been played every year since 1896, and 4 of the last 5 editions have been decided by one score.

Distance to a Company with Patriot in the name: 4.1 miles to Patriot Notary Services.

Lehigh

Where: Bethlehem, PA

Last Year’s Record: 2-9 (1-5 Patriot)

Why Should You Care: The Mountain Hawks are rebuilding under second year coach Kevin Cahill, and the offense should improve significantly after a full year in a new system.

Sickos Forecast: Warning - The schedule is ripe with close matchups and potential shootouts, and there could be some really fun games out of nowhere.

Potential Sickos Game(s): vs Wagner on September 7. Both these teams are coming off rebuilding years and hope to turn a corner, and this week 2 game could be crucial to their seasons.
